Afraid he would lose her once more, Max tried to stop her. In the ensuing struggle, the gun went off. What happens next is a roller-coaster ride of crisis, suspense, recovery, discovery and love.

The story commences with some man roaming around the outside of this bungalow and Fran is very afraid. The house is outfitted with the latest high-tech devices designed to protect her from detection. It is a little confusing for the reader at first because there is no explanation as to what the Syndicate is or what Max’s relationship is to Fran. Both have changed their appearances and identity, so Fran doesn’t recognize Max. In the confusion, when Fran and Max escaped the clutches of the Syndicate, they became separated. Fran moved to the West Coast and went into hiding in this bungalow, intending to quietly live out the remaining months of her pregnancy. She calls in to her handler that there is a man there and panics and runs for her car with a gun. Afraid he would lose her once more, Max tried to stop her and in the ensuing struggle, the gun went off.
This story’s theme is the very profitable business of finding babies for couples who are barren and want to adopt, and how young women, especially from Mexico, are captured and held in a type dormitory, being impregnated to bear a child. Law enforcement is attempting to find the owners and operators of these baby farms, arrest them and free the women. There is some romance and drama and as the story progresses, it takes us on a journey Fran and her good friend Max will not finish. To explain the facets of the story further would spoil it for you.
I found the story interesting because it was subject matter that was new for me. I was given a complimentary copy for an honest review.

What a deeply touching story. I wanted to know why Fran was so paranoid about her safety and who was behind the surrogacy saga. The question of who Max was to Fran kept me turning the pages. Full of suspense and drama.
Terrified and pregnant. What a horrid place to be. This story takes us on the journey Fran and her good friend, Max will not finish. Separated, Max is looking for her as he wants to protect his friend. To go too much further would spoil the tale. I did stay up a bit too late, as I was into the story and had to see what went on next. A couple of twists here as well.
Well, this was a page-turner/. Word of warning, do not attempt to read this book at night because you will not be able to put it down. Fran's character was very vulnerable and it was easy to get into her emotions. The twists in this tale will keep you glued to the page. Enjoy!
Fran and Max is a book worth an award. It is the best book I ever read, and I feel the author is the best one ever. The story is easy to read. I couldn't put the book down. I read it most of it in one night. I learned a lot about slaves for baby making and the dangers these girls face. This book is highly recommended!
